A TALE OF TWO LANDS

Life, hate it or ignore it, you can’t love it. Evolution has developed man to an extent that new technological breakthroughs are almost always imminent, in almost any field. But this development has come at a cost. We don’t care what the cost is and how big it is (it is huge, I hear) but we should at least attempt to understand it.
This is a story of two girls, living in two distinct lands, Lalaland and Ullocaland. Both these land exist on a pale blue dot in the western part of a small galaxy. Peoples of Lalaland have never come in contact with peoples of Ullocaland. Except when fate made Lily, a teenage girl living in a small city in Lalaland, meet Joshua, another teenage girl from a big city in Ullocaland. Actually it was Joshua who came to Lalaland to save herself from the horrific life she was destined to live in Ullocaland.
On account of no contact between the lands, both Lily and Joshua were a bit shocked to see each other at first. Joshua was somehow able to cross a stretch of five hundred miles of water on a boat she somehow managed to steal one midnight with some food and water. Lily who lives in a hut on the sea shore saw Joshua one day on a boat. Despite their differences and language barriers, Joshua somehow managed to request Lily to provide her a bed to sleep in her small hut for a few days. Lily obliged.
After 2 months Lily managed to teach Joshua some English and that invited conversations on a lot of topics which many a time stretched late into the night.
Both of them discussed about their lands, Lily described her land in the following manner.
“Lalaland is a developed land. It inhabits a wide range of ethnic diversity. People of almost all known religions may be found here. People live happily and free trade exists in all the 40 different states in the land. There is no constitution or law as our ancestors never indulged in wars or even fights. We live in peace and there hasn’t been a single case of riot in Lalaland in known history. Every single person has complete freedom.  Schools here are a centre of curiosity and creativity. They inspire our children to be creative and teach them various forms of art. It is not wrong to say that inhabitant of the Lalaland have stronger Right-Brains. We love Beer and prefer it over coffee.”
In return, Joshua had a grim tale to tell.
“Ullocaland is a crazy place to live in. Jimmy James is the sole ruler of the land. People of our neighbouring lands call him Jim the Mad Dog. Even using the word Mad may lead to death in Ullocaland. We are made to learn Science and take up courses which will allow us to create new weapons of mass destruction. The whole land follows a dress code. Half of our hard-earned income goes straight into the coffers of Jimmy James. We are told what to eat, what not to eat, what to speak, what not to speak, what to do, what not to do. Dissent of any form means death. History books glorify the heroic deeds of our ruler and how he has prospered or land. You won’t find a single rebellious person in the land now as all of them were killed and currently all the inhabitants have reached a state of mind where they treat Jim the Mad Dog as their God. As you might say, we are the Left-Brained people and coffee is all we get to drink.I was sick of all that I saw in my land and decided to leave it once for all.”
Lily was terrified to hear about the state of a distant land which was so different from her own land.
After about six months stay with Lily, Joshua learned all that was required to live in a big city in Lalaland. She had enrolled herself for a course in Literature at a top university and aimed to become a writer in the future and reveal the dark state of Ullocaland.
She thanked Lily for her love and affection and most importantly for providing a roof over her head. Joshua wished she could repay Lily in the near future. Lily told Joshua that her becoming a writer would be the best gift she would expect from her and that she would be the first person to buy the book.
Joshua’s book came out five years later, titled “Freedom is a state of Mind”.
And yes, she only drinks Beer now.
