What defines happiness? It would certainly, be, materialistic to term it as the “absence from suffering”. According to Aristotle’s Nichomachean Ethics, happiness is the ultimate end of humanity; as everything humans do is done in order to obtain it, and it can be gained via the achievement of full excellence of the soul. The desire to achieve eternal happiness paradoxically creates an endless chain of desires. As higher arrays of meaning have withered, the real purpose of life is waning in the never ending darkness of night and we live on an ideal constructive soil perfectly suited for depression.
I began my quest for happiness the day, I embraced this world filled with longings and affections. We often hear that the key to happiness is to appreciate what you have. If it is that unpretentious, then why do people often run into dejection? So, attaining post-graduation in the field I had desired; is it the much sought after *eternal happiness’ or striving endlessly for higher research despite repeated failure would fetch the peace I am looking for! Something tells me that needs would be endless with which the dynamics of happiness are equated. In this world of biased onlookers, I often tend to detach myself from covetousness to taste the flavor of happiness. But, it takes no time for me to revert back to square one and embrace gloominess once the phase of elation ends. Happiness is just a state of mind, wearing a crown of distress over its head. Those of us who welcome it must also welcome distress. It appears that the happiness which most of us want to experience in our lives, does not get much consideration as it deserves. Most people go through a struggle when asked to recall where they experienced their way towards eternal happiness; per say. It is more a product of attitude than situations. so, as to whether subjectivise it or to seek objectivity would be my next question which I address in this personal quest to attain eternal happiness!
